"Marathi Maifeel" event organized by
Maharashtra Mandal
of Jacksonville Florida, was held on August 2, 2009. The event
organized to commemorate "Tilak Punyathithi" was held at the
residence of Drs. Milind and Suwarana Tilak.
The topic of the event "Classic Masterpieces - From Keshavasut to
Kusumagraj" addressed great poets of modern era of the
Maharashtrian literature. The poems were compiled and narrated
by Dr. Geetatai Bhagwat and recited by Mrs. Neelima
Gole and Dr.
Suwarana Tilak. An audience of 30-40 lovers of
Marathi poetry enjoyed the nostalgic event.
The
poetry reading
included various interesting anecdotal references provided by
Mrs.Bhagwat. Special requests were also entertained on behalf of the
audience. The highlight of the event included a poem which refers
to probable dialog between
Shakespeare
and Saint Tukaram. A poignant point was reached when Mrs. Bhagawat
read out a poem written by Kusumagraj on Bal Ganagdhar Tilak.
The program started with the welcome given by Shekhar Pandhare and
ended with a
vote of thanks given by Mr.
Harish Pandit,
MMJAXFL secretary. A gift was presented to Mrs. Bhagwat on the
behalf of Mandal by Mrs. Neelima Gole, MMJAXL Event coordinator. Mr.
Abhijit Mulay,
MMJAXFL President, gave an overview of the upcoming Mandal events.
The audience rose to the National Anthem sung by Ms. Tilak.
At the end, special Indian 'chaha' and 'coffee' aroma soon filled
the air along with freshly baked cake by Dr. Suwarna Tilak. The
pleased audience discussed the event over the delicious snacks of
samosas and dhokla.
